While Country music’s newest star, Lainey Wilson, never imagined her rise to fame would take place amidst a global pandemic, she has no doubt her hard-earned career is falling into place just as it should.

“I remember walking up and down Music Row, with a burnt CD, knocking on people’s doors trying to just get anybody to listen to my stuff that would,” Lainey recalled while chatting with Audacy’s Coop. "I had a few doors slammed in my face, which was a terrible feelin’ but… I feel like as much as I thought I was ready, I wasn’t. I feel like [now] could not be more perfect timing for me.”
We couldn’t agree more as Lainey’s debut single, “Things A Man Oughta Know,” enters the top ten in Country radio this week, just as she embarks on her second week as a part of Jason Aldean’s Back In The Saddle Tour.
“This is definitely the biggest tour I’ve ever done. I have always been a Jason Aldean fan, honestly he’s been a huge influence of mine,” Lainey shared, before detailing what a new experience live shows have been since rising to fame during quarantine.
“I was just telling someone the first standing ovation I got, I thought people were getting up to leave,” she laughed. “I have seen little girls singing every word, I have seen old men — I mean, it’s across the board — people are just latching on to this song and it’s so much fun to watch.”
As Lainey enjoys the success of her first single, she has also felt the love through the success of her first album, Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin,’ which she released in February. Most-recently, Wilson has released a song titled “Two Story House,” detailing the strong relationship she has with her sister, despite living two very different lives.
“There’s times where I have to be a little border line crazy to want to do this [sing], and to stick it out as long as I have” Wilson shared before detailing her inspiration for writing the song. “My sister knew that I was never coming’ back, like I was going to figure this out one way or another.”
“We grew up very close in age,” she continued. “We grew up in the same bedroom, shared the same clothes, but we grew up to have two very different stories. That’s the beauty of it all — everybody’s got different dreams, it don’t mean one is better than the other. She’s got two kids, she’s got a a husband and a dog and her I am talkin’ to you.”
