How cold is it in metro Detroit? Ask Steve Grunwald. The WYCD morning co-host has slept outside the Ronald McDonald House since Tuesday night.

He’s did it with Jeff Schneider, general sales manager at Szott Automotive Group, to raise $50,000 for the Ronald McDonald House, which offers families a place to stay while their children are undergoing treatment at Children’s Hospital.

Grunwald and Schneider asked the community to donate money in either of their names.

Grunwald promised to stay put, living in that tent, until every dime of the $50,000 was raised. By the end, $88,000 was raised, but along the way an unfriendly bet was born.

Grunwald had to get dunked.

Grunwald woke in his tiny orange tent to a sheen of ice on the water in the dunk tank, and a challenge to put his entire weary body in it.

The slow-motion video above is priceless.

"It's so cold I can't even feel my toes," Grunwald said. When it was over, he had survived and said he was glad to know he had helped so many families in need through the Ronald McDonald house.
