BELLEVILLE, Ill (KYKY) - A Metro East drive-in movie theater is planning to open up for moviegoers with some new rules to practice safe social distancing during this coronavirus pandemic.
Skyview Drive-In in Belleville is going to begin showing movies on April 3 and 4. Screen No. 1 will show "The Goonies" at 8 p.m. and "Beetlejuice" at 10:05 p.m., then screen No. 2 will show Grease at 8 p.m. and "Ferris Buehler's Day Off" at 10 p.m.
To keep to the CDC's guidelines of social distancing, cars will be parked at a "safe distance" with only one vehicle between poles instead of two like usual.
Many theatres in the St. Louis area have temporarily closed, including Marcus Theatres, AMC Theatres, Moolah Theatre, and The Fox Theatre.
The playground at Skyview will be closed, and the concession stand will be open for carryout only and be limited to 50 people standing in line at one time. The theatre also will mandate customers must stay at least 6-feet away from each other.
"We will take extraordinary measures to assure that all hard surfaces are cleaned often and the bathrooms will be sanitized before opening and during the evening," Skyview posted on Facebook.
The following weekend, April 10 and 11, Skyview will play "Trolls World Tour" and after that plans to "figure out a way to keep movies on the screen."
Last year, Skyview celebrated its 70th anniversary.
