Jamie Miller on ‘Babydoll' and beyond

It was almost plan B for Jamie Miller, before his song “Babydoll” took off and leveled up his music career. The singer recently joined Bru in Los Angeles to talk about how he went from almost broke to breaking out with his new hit, touring with the Jonas Brothers, and how support from Khloé Kardashian helped change the game.

Miller took his first steps into the spotlight on the UK edition of The Voice, but it was a famous fan that helped catapult him towards success. “It was a stepping stone,” he says. “I feel like those shows maybe 20 years ago would have changed everything, but for me it's a lot harder to go on those shows and become a success now, just because I feel like there's so many.”

“I love that show, I look back with such fond memories. But after I left the show, Khloé Kardashian found me and she said that I was her new favorite singer and she is the reason literally why I live in America,” Miller reveals. “She literally got me a record deal from one post, like every single label at the time in the world hit me up and I went from fixing iPads in a call center to signing a record deal, like within a day.”

The breakout of “Babydoll” came after a few quiet years, having not released music for 2 years. “I had no expectations for it, it just felt like I was making music because I loved it,” he says. “Just to see the response from the world has been absolutely mind-boggling.”

“I literally went into this year saying that this was my last chance to give music a shot,” Jamie reveals. “If it didn't work this year, then I was like, ‘I'm just gonna go back to the UK and come up with a plan B.’ Don't know what my job was gonna be but I got to that level this year and I just never thought ‘Babydoll’ would, I had a plan B literally planned out, so this is wild to me.”
