Following Machine Gun Kelly on social media comes with a set of expectations like no other celebrity: You might get wild antics, he and his BFF Pete Davidson in their underwear, or super-sweet professions of love to his twin flame, Megan Fox. Earlier this week things got a little bloody on the Gram, leaving Kelly to explain exactly what went down during his visit on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Currently on the road with his Mainstream Sellout tour, and while out celebrating his sold-out show at New York City's Madison Square Garden at an afterparty on June 28, MGK, (real name Colson Baker), chose to clink a champagne glass on his mug in the absence of anything harder to tap it with. He shared the bloody results on his Instagram Story and a subsequent post, captioned simply, "NYC you’re my bloody valentine." In his story, however, Kelly was seen making a speech telling the crowd, "I don't give a s***," before smashing the glass against his face. "And this is where things turned..." he captioned the clip.
Visiting with Seth Meyers the following night, Kelly first revealed that he was feeling "like s***" after what was likely the hardest of celebrations the evening before. He then explained his injury saying, "You know when you clink a champagne glass with a fork to get people's attention? I didn’t have a fork, so I just clinked it on my head."
“In medicine, they call that asking for it,” Meyers joked. "Yeah, I had a serious case of that last night," Kelly laughed. After touching his head and wincing in pain, he went on to explain how he received his "first music check" in New York City after winning amateur night at the Apollo Theater. "It was for $45... and I never cashed it. I always held onto it. The only thing I said all day was 'We're at The Garden! We're at The Garden!'"
Kelly was also given the exciting privilege to light up the city's Empire State Building in pink in honor of his new album, visit, and new documentary Life In Pink streaming now on Hulu. "They decided to do this before they heard you're the kind of guy who smashes a glass on his own head," Meyers joked. "Thank God I waited," Kelly said, before showing viewers where he was taken for a tour atop the iconic tower. "Thank God I didn't have a champagne glass up there," he laughed. "Excuse me! New York!"
