The weather has been so unusually cold for southern Florida that the weather services have issued a "Lizard Blizzard" warning for its residents: the iguanas that frequent in mass amounts in the area do not react well with extreme cold temperatures.
The cold causes them to become sluggish, and many have been falling out of trees and onto cars, pools, sidewalks, and even people. These big boys can range from around 5 feet and 20 pounds, which can cause some pretty dangerous situations for unsuspecting people walking by.
"Once the temperature drops below 45 degrees Fahrenheit the iguanas go into a dormant or cold-stunned state. They appear to be dead, but they are not. They remain breathing with critical body functions still operating", said a CNN article.
Bizarre, but would you really expect anything less from the state that provides us all with our favorite crazy news headlines?
