Chrissy Teigen is having some "cravings!"
Since announcing her sobriety, the "Cravings" cookbook author revealed that she’s become “insane” about sweets.
On Saturday night, she took to Instagram Story to document her dessert-habits.
She kicked off the evening by snacking on cookies and pie from Milkbar. She then indulged in ice cream from Salt & Straw, before topping it all off with donuts from Yum Yum.
"I'm very into sweets. They say when you stop drinking, that you go sweets crazy," she told fans, adding, "I really never liked sweets as much before. I'm insane now."
Turns out, Teigen’s sweet tooth is a very common side-effect of going sober.
"Whenever you try to kick one health-disrupting habit, it's natural to find yourself struggling with another," Lisa Moskovitz, RD, CDN and the CEO of NY Nutrition Group, told Insider.
Mitzi Dulan, the owner of SimplyFUEL, added sugar impacts the brain in “many of the same neural pathways” as liquor.
"This makes it common for a shift from alcohol addiction to sugar cravings as eating sweets causes your brain to release the 'feel-good' chemical dopamine," she added.
Additionally, DJ Blatner, a registered dietitian nutritionist based in Chicago, told the outlet that alcohol impacts blood sugar levels. When you stop drinking, you experience changes to blood sugar which ultimately leads to sugar cravings.
But since constantly snacking on sweets can have a negative effect on your health, experts suggest supplementing with exercise and healthy treats to curb some of those sweet cravings.
Dulan said that adding protein, healthy fats, and carbs to your diet will help regulate sugar levels.
Some must-add foods include hard boiled eggs, avocado toast, and almonds. She also suggested munching on frozen grapes for a hint of sweetness.
Blatner echoed Dulan’s suggestions claiming that adding a range of fruit to your diet provides a natural source of sugar.
Not only can snacking take a toll on your health, but Teigen learned the hard way that it can also lead to a dental mishap.
Following the events of the presidential inauguration in Washington D.C., where her husband, John Legend, performed, Teigen revealed she lost a tooth after enjoying a Fruit Roll-Up.
In a video, the 35-year-old later clarified that it wasn’t a tooth but a cap, which is better known as a dental crown.
In December, Teigen announced she is “4 weeks sober.”
