Coming March 10, Musiq Soulchild’s new album, Victims & Villains, will be out. Produced by Hit-Boy, primarily known for his work on Hip-Hop records, fans can expect something a little different from Musiq.

“I’m trying to shift a little bit to add more elements than just the whole R&B factor,” he said, “there’s way more to me,” noting that while you’re still getting some of his classic R&B ballads, he’s also experimenting to show the different layers to him.

While he didn’t share any specific song titles, he did say what inspired the title, Victims & Villains: “Anybody can be the victim or the villain, it's a matter of perspective.”

“Some people think they’re the victim and they’re really the villain,” he says, wanting to bring attention to all that really goes on in relationships, and even pulling from his own experiences. believing that some people are just “allergic to accountability.”

But Musiq can’t help to talk about his new album without showing appreciation for where it all started, sharing that now he is, “becoming more and more aware of how blessed [he] was.”

He also explained how when he first came into the industry he didn’t really understand and appreciate certain things but looking back on it now, he is so thankful for where it has gotten him.

Musiq revealed that when he first started out, his goal wasn’t even to make an album, “I was trying to figure myself out creatively,” he said, but people pushed for it to be made and with “Just Friends” being featured on the Nutty Professor 2 soundtrack, he was catapulted into fame.

“All of a sudden, instantly, I was somebody,” he shared.

And somebody he is... currently on tour with Kem and Ledisi for the Soul II Soul Tour. While sharing his excitement to take the stage for fans, he says that his favorite song to perform is “Just Friends,” because it reconnects him to where it all started.
