Being offered her first starring role on Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place series at the young age of 13, it was a family effort to make it happen for Gomez as she was underage and had to make a big move from Texas to Los Angeles.

“It was actually hard because my parents aren’t together,” she shared. “My dad stayed in Texas… [he] was devastated because he had a job and he wasn’t going to be able to do a lot but I remember him just saying,’ This is something you want to do and I want you to do that.’ My Mom has always wanted me to believe bigger than where we’re from because it’s small where I’m from, you don’t see anything.”

She continued, “I really give them credit for choosing me over their own happiness and essentially I think that brought them happiness once I was working and doing what I loved.”
