PODCAST: A grotesque fear of The Grinch

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- In the 65 years since Dr. Seuss created The Grinch, the character has slowly become just as big of a Christmas icon as Santa Claus.

Despite his transformation from holiday Scrooge to savior in his most popular story, "How the Grinch stole Christmas," some say they are still horrified by him. One of those people is this week's listener, Peter.

Not only is Peter spooked by The Grinch's design and demeanor, he's paranoid that one day the character may jump the page to the real world and kidnap him!

While the latter scenario is highly unlikely to happen, on this week's episode of "Your Weirdest Fears," host Larry Mullins dives into what makes the character seem so scary in the first place.

Speaking with Dr. Philip Nel, one of the country's leading authorities on children's literature (and Dr. Seuss especially), the two break down the character surprising history, as well as some of the traits that make him nightmare fuel for adults.
