2 killed, 3 hurt when vehicle struck by speeding stolen car in Newark: officials

NEWARK, N.J. (WCBS 880) – Officials in New Jersey are investigating a car accident early Thursday that killed two people and left three others injured.

At approximately 4:35 a.m., a Dodge Charger traveling at a high rate of speed struck an Acura at the intersection of West Runyon and Elizabeth Avenue in Newark.

The two occupants of the Acura – Felix Valdez, 47, and a woman whose identity has not yet been confirmed - were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

At least three women were in the Dodge Charger, which was reported stolen on Thursday, police said.

They were transported to University Hospital for treatment and are in stable condition.

Two men, who were also believed to be in the vehicle, fled on foot, authorities said.

No arrests have been made at this time.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
