SMITHTOWN, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — Two men accused of impersonating police officers during a pair of fake traffic stops late Wednesday night on Long Island are now facing criminal charges.

Suffolk County Police allege Franco Calla and Robert Toomey, who were in a black 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe equipped with flashing blue and white lights, first pulled over a man on Route 111 in Smithtown at 11:13 p.m.
As the two suspects, who were in plain clothes, walked up to the man's car, they identified themselves as undercover officers and demanded the victim's driver's license.
Toomey then ordered the man to surrender any drugs, police said.
The male motorist grew suspicious of the duo and questioned the two men, who then admitted they were not officers and took off in the Tahoe.
The two men then tried to pull over a female driver a short distance away, but she drove off after the first victim came by and warned her about the men, who then continued heading south on Route 111.
The first victim called police and reported the incident. Officers then stopped the Tahoe and arrested the two men in a Smithtown parking lot around 11:30 p.m.
Calla, 20, and Toomey, 23, are charged with criminal impersonation and unlawful imprisonment.
The investigation is ongoing.
Police are asking anyone with information, or who believes they have been a victim, to call the Fourth Precinct at 631-854-8465 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
