WALL, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Two New Jersey men were killed Sunday after a Jeep crashed into their SUV on the side of the Garden State Parkway, NJ Advance reported.

The driver, 75-year-old Jerome Di Giovanni of Toms River, pulled the SUV over on the northbound side of the parkway close to mile marker 97.7 in Wall because he was having a medical issue around 1:30 p.m., the outlet said.

One of the passengers, 57-year-old Ronald Devingo of Toms River, was trying to get Di Giovanni out of the driver’s seat so a third passenger, Marco Di Giovanni, could drive, Marco told NJ Advance.

A Jeep then came and slammed into the trio’s car, pushing the vehicle about 100 feet, Marco explained. Both Jerome Di Giovanni and Devingo died.

The three men were on their way to visit Devingo’s brother at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune when the crash occurred, NJ Advance said. Marco was taken to the same hospital for treatment.

NJ State Police said that the SUV was in both the right highway lane and the shoulder though Marco said the vehicle was all the way on the shoulder.

A 24-year-old Belmar man was driving the Jeep and was not seriously injured in the crash.
