WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (WCBS 880) — An alligator and a number of other animals have been removed from a West Babylon home, and an official said Wednesday it could be part of a much larger breeding ring.

A dragon lizard and a number of dogs were also removed from the house.

The town's attorney, Jorge Rosario, said that illegal breeding may have been taking place and that neighbors have been complaining.

"It is awful, as you can see. These are loving animals like we were able to approach them," he told WCBS 880. "They aren't aggressive."

Rosario said the animals were found in the back of the home living in inhumane conditions.

"There's animal feces all around them. It's dirty back there," he said. "Obviously, they're just chewing on anything. We didn't even see that there was water provided outside. Someone had left, had left them back there."

The attorney said another search warrant was issued at a Deer Park warehouse, while a man was arrested in Maryland for illegally breeding dogs. He added that trapping animals and selling their furs may be involved.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office has its newly formed beast investigators at the scene and will announce any charges later this week.
