Boy, 14, fatally struck by car while riding bike on LI: police

SETAUKET, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 14-year-old boy was fatally struck by a car while riding a bike in Suffolk County, police said Friday.

David Zerella was driving a 2015 Dodge Charger westbound on Route 347 at Wireless Road in Setauket around 6:30 p.m. Thursday when he struck the teen who was crossing Route 347.

The boy, who police identified as Qamat Shah of Setauket, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital and later pronounced dead.

Zerella, 36, of Port Jefferson, and his female passenger were not injured.

It wasn't immediately clear whether charges would be filed.

The Dodge was impounded for a safety check.
