NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An elderly woman was hospitalized with serious injuries after she was run over with her own car by a carjacker in a Long Island church parking lot, police said.

The 73-year-old victim, Lorraine Lombardo, parked her Chevrolet Spark in the lot of St. Mary’s Church at 315 Lake Shore Road in Lake Ronkonkoma around 6:45 p.m. with her engine still running, authorities said.
When Lombardo got out of her car, 50-year-old Doreen Dunbar got into the driver’s seat and locked the door. Lombardo ran back to the car, opened the driver’s side and grabbed the steering wheel. Dunbar then put the car in reverse and accelerated, cops said.
Lombardo was knocked to the ground by the car door and then had her legs run over by the vehicle. Dunbar continued to accelerate, crashing the vehicle into a guardrail and a fence before fleeing the scene on foot, police said.
Responding EMS workers transported Lombardo to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers located Dunbar, who is unhoused, shortly after and took her into custody. She was charged with assault and robbery.
