Carjacker steals vehicle from Queens parking lot, drives away with employee on hood

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD is searching for a man who walked into a Queens parking lot on Tuesday and drove away with a car while an employee was on the hood trying to stop him.

The incident occurred at a parking lot at 41-10 Crescent Street in Long Island City just after 5:30 p.m. when the suspect walked into the lot where there was a white 2017 Kia sedan with its keys in the ignition, police said.

As the suspect got into the vehicle and started to drive away, a 49-year-old employee hopped on top of the hood to try to stop him, authorities said.

The man drove the car a short distance with the employee on top before he fell off and sustained a minor leg injury. The man kept driving away in the stolen vehicle, cops said.

Authorities said the vehicle, with the license plate “UGD782,” has an estimated value of $21,000.
