Carjacker who stole running vehicle at Newark gas station sought by police

NEWARK, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- Police in New Jersey are searching for a man they said stole a car left running at a gas station late last month, authorities said.

According to Newark police, the theft happened at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 20 while the vehicle's owner was inside the mini-mart at a Mobil gas station located on Frelinghuysen Avenue.

The carjacker drove off after the man noticed him and attempted to re-enter the car, police said.

Police describe the car thief as wearing a gray vest, a black sweater with white drawstrings and a BMW logo on the chest, a black ski mask, black Adidas sweat pants with a white vertical line along his leg, and light-colored sneakers.
