Retail purchases of clothing and footwear under $100 will be exempt from sales until Aug. 27.

The exemption will apply to each item regardless of how many are purchased, so if a shopper buys $500 worth of clothes but each item is under $100, tax will be exempt for the entire haul.

This is the first time Connecticut has held two tax holidays in the same year. A similar week was held in April.

“This is the second weeklong sales tax holiday the state is holding this year, and it is scheduled right at back-to-school season to help families stretch their dollar a little bit more during this busy time, while also giving businesses an extra boost to their bottom line,” said Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont. “This is also an excellent opportunity to shop at some of our state’s locally-owned retailers and support the many great small businesses we have in Connecticut.”
