YONKERS (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- An out-of-control driver fatally struck a 70-year-old woman, jumped a retaining wall and crashed into a house in Yonkers on Sunday evening, police said.
The 54-year-old driver was headed north on North Broadway around 7 p.m. when she crossed the double yellow line, mowed down the pedestrian, launched over the 3-foot-high retaining wall and plowed into the front of the home at 693 North Broadway.
The vehicle landed in the living room, leaving a gaping hole to the left of the front door.
A resident of the home, who gave his name as Bill, called the crash "unbelievable."
"Picture me, I'm thinking I'm safe in my own house," he said. "And look, 7 o'clock last night, this happened."

He said his sister was sitting just feet from the crash and is lucky to have made it out with only minor injuries.
"My sister was watching TV right by the window here," he said. "Thank God—everything went on top of her—that she came out alive. She got hurt, legs all scratched up, the arms scratched up. It's a disaster. Thank God she didn’t die."
The unidentified pedestrian who was killed is said to be a retired woman who walks every evening.
The driver, who is from White Plains, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening, blunt force injuries.
Police are trying to determine what caused her to lose control. There were no skid marks in the street or indications she attempted to stop.
