Driver, 26, surrenders to police after LI hit-run critically injures 20-year-old

BELLMORE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 26-year-old driver was charged after allegedly mowing down a 20-year-old woman and fleeing the scene on Tuesday night, Nassau County Police said.

According to police, around 10:10 p.m., the victim was crossing Sunrise Highway at Bedford Avenue in Bellmore when Ashley Martin struck her and drove off.

The 20-year-old suffered severe head trauma and was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

Martin, of Lindenhurst, surrendered to police later that night and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury. She was due to be arraigned on Wednesday.
