NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Long Island man who was charged with stabbing his girlfriend in front of her 9-year-old daughter pled guilty to second degree murder on Tuesday, the Suffolk County District Attorney announced.

The 34-year-old man, Bayron Fajardo-Gonzalez, had an argument with his girlfriend, 45-year-old Tania Fox, on the evening of Aug. 10, 2020. When Fox returned back to their home, she locked herself and her daughter in the child’s bedroom to get away from Fajardo-Gonzalez, officials said.
Fajardo-Gonzelez was not able to get into the child’s bedroom so he went outside and broke a window. Fox and her daughter ran from the bedroom to a small attic upstairs to hide where she called her cousin and said “...if anything happens to me, Bayron is guilty. Please take care of [my daughter],” authorities said.
Once Fajardo-Gonzalez got up to the attic, he stabbed Fox in the chest multiple times in front of her daughter. The girl was able to escape the attic and call 911 as her mom was heard screaming in the background, officials said.
Police arrived at the scene where they found Fajardo-Gonzalez walking down the steps from the attic covered in Fox’s blood. He admitted he stabbed her, authorities said.
“This plea will not bring the victim back, nor will it erase the brutal acts her young daughter witnessed,” said District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. “However, this defendant will now serve an extensive prison sentence and her family and loved ones can hopefully rest a little easier knowing that the defendant has been brought to justice.”
Fajardo-Gonzalez faces up to 20 years to life in prison when he is sentenced on April 27.
