Former mayor of NJ town accused of sexually assaulting teen

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (WCBS 880) - A former mayor of a New Jersey town is being accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a teenager, authorities announced Tuesday.

Ted Tomaszewski, 53, is charged with second-degree sexual assault, second-degree luring and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Warren County Prosecutor's Office.

On Jan. 2, Hackettstown police launched an investigation after receiving information that Tomaszewski was engaging in "sexually inappropriate communication" officials said.

Between Nov. 1, 2022 and Jan. 2, 2023, Tomaszewski engaged in multiple sexual acts with the victim in Hackettstown and Mount Olive Township with the victim who was 15-years-old at the time, the prosecutor's office said.

Tomaszewski was charged with multiple sexual assaults between Nov. 1 and Jan. 2 in Hackettstown and Mount Olive Township, the prosecutor said.

He remains in Warren County Jail and faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Tomaszewski was the mayor of Mansfield Township from 2010 to 2014.
