
SHIRLEY, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Human remains were found in the sand on a Long Island beach Monday, Suffolk County police said.
A woman called 911 around 1:30 p.m. after discovering what appeared to be a human bone on the beach at Smith Point County Park in Shirley.
Arriving officers located the bone in the sand and transported the remains to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
The medical examiner will work to identify the remains and figure out how the person died, police said.
County detectives are on the case and are asking anyone with info to contact the homicide squad at 631-852-6392.
