COMMACK, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 51-year-old woman was charged with driving while intoxicated morning after she drove into oncoming traffic in Commack early Wednesday, police said.

Suffolk County Police responded to a 911 report of a Ford Expedition being driven eastbound in the westbound lanes of Jericho Turnpike at 12:50 a.m.
An officer in a marked police car located the Ford and drove up behind it with lights and siren activated, but the driver, Susan Charan, did not stop the vehicle, authorities said.
Police said the officer then drove past the Ford and positioned his vehicle in front of it. The officer gradually slowed down his vehicle until it came to a stop with the Ford stopping behind it. The officer then saw that Charan was "intoxicated."
The Hicksville woman was arrested and charged.
Charan was also issued multiple summonses for traffic violations, according to cops. The Ford was also impounded.
She was due to be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
