NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 27-year-old man has been convicted of murder and other crimes for his role in the botched home invasion that resulted in the stabbing death of a 20-year-old man in late 2016, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said Thursday.
Kristof Williams, of Forest Hills, was found guilty on Wednesday of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree burglary and faces up to 25 years to life in prison for participating in the South Richmond Hill home invasion.
According to trial records, Williams and three others broke into a home on 110th Street in South Richmond Hill, Queens, around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 30, 2016. He believed the group would find Xanax pills, marijuana, and cash inside.
Katz said Williams and the other assailants found Eddie Ventura in a bedroom playing video games with two others. Ventura fought with one of the men and was stabbed numerous times in the back and thigh. Ventura died as a result of the stab wounds.
Williams is the last member of the group to have been punished, following Jose Pichardo, who was found guilty of second-degree murder and was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison in October 2021.
Khalil Moses pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 21 years in prison in September 2020, while John Pichardo pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary and was sentenced in July 2020 to 15 years in prison.
"After nearly two weeks of listening to testimony, a jury found the defendant guilty of murder in the death of a young man who was at a friend’s home playing video games when he was suddenly attacked and killed," Katz said in a statement. "This defendant was a participant in this senseless act of violence. His fate will now be determined when the Court sentences him for his criminal actions."
Williams is scheduled to be sentenced on May 6.
