NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A child had to be rescued after falling between two subway cars in Queens on Wednesday evening.

The 12-year-old ended up between the train cars on the R line around 7:30 p.m., police said.

The rescue took place near the Roosevelt Avenue station in Jackson Heights, according to police. First responders were also seen near the Elmhurst Avenue station.

Police couldn't immediately confirm how the child fell or if subway surfing may have played a role. It's unclear if the train was moving at the time.

The victim was taken to a hospital with a knee injury.

The incident led to delays on the E, F, M and R lines. The service disruptions had resolved by Thursday.
