NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A Manhattan man was arrested on Friday after he stole a New York Post delivery van and took it for a joyride across the city, police said.
The incident occurred at around 3:20 a.m. as the van driver, 49-year-old David Lane left his van to drop off newspapers near Grand Central Station.
The stolen van crashed into at least two NYPD police cars during the hour-long heist that took place from Midtown to City Hall to the suspects Murray Hill home, officials said.
The driver, later identified as 29-year-old Brendan Malone was arrested after he crashed into a street sign outside his home on East 39th Street off Lexington Ave, the New York Post reports.
Malone’s doorman called cops when they saw him race inside, the report adds.
One police vehicle was struck near City Hall and an NYPD van on 14th Street as the chase continued across lower Manhattan, authorities said.
Three officers were hospitalized with minor injuries.
The alleged van thief then parked in front of his home on East 39th Street off Lexington Avenue, where he was taken into custody with charges pending, an NYPD spokesman said.
