NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- Twenty people were treated by the FDNY, and five had to be hospitalized, in a hazmat situation at a luxury spa in Brooklyn on Wednesday night.

The FDNY received a call just after 10 p.m. from World Spa on McDonald Avenue in Midwood.

First responders located a "hazmat incident" in the basement of the spa, where employees had mixed two cleaning agents together.

It's unclear what chemicals were mixed, but combining ammonia and bleach is a common cleaning mistake that creates a toxic gas.

There were 20 patients in connection with the incident, the FDNY said.
