NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A young trio yelled anti-Black slurs and beat up a 15-year-old boy with autism in a Manhattan subway station on Friday, police said.
The apparent teens dragged the boy from a northbound A train around 5:30 p.m. onto the northbound platform at the West 181st Street and Fort Washington Avenue subway station.
The group then said anti-Black slurs before striking the victim multiple times about the head and body, police said.
A video of the attack spread widely on social media, showing the boy being dragged off the train by his hoodie and repeatedly punched.
He was left with a cut on his lip and pain and bruising throughout the body.
EMS transported the boy to New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center in stable condition.
Police believe the group fled out of the station.
The NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force was also notified of the attack.
There are no arrests at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
New York City Transit President Richard Davey released a statement Monday saying that the video is "heartbreaking" and "disturbing" and that their "hearts are with the young man seemingly being senselessly victimized."
"No one should be subject to this sort of hateful harassment while they are riding with New York City Transit, and the MTA is fully cooperating with the NYPD in its investigation into the incident," he added.
