
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — NYPD officers shot and killed a man threatening to hurt a woman during a shootout in Brooklyn on Thursday night, authorities said.
The shooting happened at about 10:20 p.m. outside HL Gourmet Deli Grocery, located at the intersection of West 36th Street and Neptune Avenue in Coney Island.
According to officials, two NYPD officers on patrol at West 36th Street and Mermaid Avenue when they were approached by two women who alerted them that someone was firing shots.
Investigators later discovered that the women were victims of a domestic incident involving the initial gunshots.
Police received at least two 911 calls reporting the shots, as well as an alert from the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system.

Upon the arrival of additional police, authorities said that they were immediately fired upon by the armed man.
Officers returned fire, fatally shooting the armed man, who continued to shoot from the ground, police said.
When the man stopped firing, police disarmed and handcuffed him, and began administering first aid, authorities said.
The firearm was recovered by police.

The man died at the scene. His identity has not been released.
The officers involved were not shot and taken to an area hospital to be treated for ringing in the ears.
