NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man was arrested in connection with last week’s brutal pipe beating of a subway custodian in Lower Manhattan, police said Monday.
Jonathan Frias, 28, was charged with assault on Sunday afternoon. Police said they used surveillance video to track him down.
Police believe Frias, who is homeless, is the man who bashed the 46-year-old custodian in the head with a pipe as she cleaned a platform at the Chambers Street-World Trade Center station in the Financial District on Nov. 4.
The cleaner, an MTA contractor, was on the platform at 6:45 a.m. when a man stormed up and struck her in an entirely unprovoked assault, police said.
MTA employees chased after the attacker, but he managed to escape on a 2 train.
The victim suffered swelling and bruising to her face. She was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition.
