NEW YORK (WCBS 880 ) -- The NYPD's Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating after a man was fatally struck on a Queens highway Wednesday night, authorities said.

Just after 9 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck in a motor vehicle collision on the Grand Central Parkway at 73rd Street in Astoria.

Further investigation determined that a 35-year-old man driving a 2017 BMW X5 was traveling eastbound in the left lane of the Grand Central Parkway, approaching the pedestrian overpass at 73rd Street.

At that time, the victim was crossing on the parkway from south to north, not utilizing the designated pedestrian overpass, officials said.

The vehicle struck the pedestrian in the left lane before coming to a stop.

There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
