NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 13-year-old boy was taken into custody after a loaded revolver and a fake gun were found inside his backpack at a Bronx public school Thursday morning, police said.
It happened at M.S. 363, the Academy for Personal Leadership and Excellence, which is a city school located at 120 E. 184th St. in Fordham Heights.
Students told 1010 WINS there are no metal detectors and bags are not searched.
"They should not have guns in this school because it's a performance on violence, and you could die," one student said.
A Department of Education spokesperson said in a statement that an "attentive and brave student raised concerns to a trusted staff member." School safety agents then confiscated the weapons without incident.
"Weapons of any kind are not tolerated in our schools," the spokesperson said.
"All safety procedures were followed," the statement added. "All students and staff are safe," adding that the DOE is "working closely" with the "NYPD regarding follow-up actions."
There's no word on what the student will be charged with.
