NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man has been charged with murder six weeks after his girlfriend's dismembered body was discovered in suitcases in Brooklyn, police said Monday.
Justin Williams, 24, has been charged with murder and concealment of a human corpse in the killing of 22-year-old D'Asia Johnson.
Police discovered Johnson's dismembered body in two suitcases on Sept. 21 inside her sixth-floor apartment at Linwood Street and Atlantic Avenue in Cypress Hills.
A meat cleaver was found near her decomposing remains in her blood-splattered bathroom, the Daily News reported.
Johnson was killed by multiple stab wounds to her torso before she was dismembered, an autopsy by the city medical examiner's office revealed.
Her killing came after months of beatings by Williams, as her friend and neighbor previously told the outlet.
"He broke her ribs, her legs, a couple months ago," Stephanie Harris said after the killing. "She came back, she was on crutches. And he broke her apartment down, broke the TVs in her apartment. And I cried to her, like, 'Listen, I don’t want to see you on the news.'"
Williams, 23, was arrested in Nassau County on Oct. 1 in connection with a separate assault, grand larceny and bail jumping case. Nassau County Assistant District Attorney Brittany Gurrieri reportedly said in court that Williams was a person of interest in Johnson’s murder.
Williams allegedly had a second girlfriend, who had been using Johnson's benefits card ever since the murder.
It wasn't immediately clear if the other girlfriend, who reportedly is also the mother of his children, would be arrested.
