NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A Bronx man was indicted this week in the "spectacularly brutal" killing of his ex-girlfriend's dog, prosecutors said Friday.

Victor Castillo, 32, was arraigned Wednesday on a felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office.

Castillo allegedly killed his ex's 7-year-old Pomeranian breed named Ken-Shin during an argument at her apartment on Arthur Avenue in Belmont on Feb. 9.

As the two fought, Castillo picked up the 9.5-pound dog by his neck and slammed his head onto a wooden coffee table, according to prosecutors.

The brutal attack caused "blood to splatter around the room," prosecutors said.

An autopsy conducted by the A.S.P.C.A. found blunt force trauma to the dog's head caused multiple skull fractures and lacerations to his brain.

"This was a spectacularly brutal act of animal abuse," Bronx D.A. Darcel Clark said in a statement. "The defendant is being held accountable for allegedly causing multiple fractures to the little dog’s head, killing him instantly."

Castillo is due back in court on May 4.
