Bronx store employee suffers concussion when struck by thief

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD is searching for a woman they said struck an employee in the head while attempting to steal merchandise from a store at a Bronx mall last month, authorities said Wednesday.

At approximately 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, the woman tried taking property without payment from a $10 or Less store located at 2952 Third Ave. in the South Bronx, police said.

According to officials, a 55-year-old employee approached the suspect as they were trying to leave the store and the individual struck the employee in the head with an unknown object.

The suspect fled the store, northbound on Third Avenue, with merchandise.

EMS transported the victim to an area hospital to be treated for a laceration to the head and a concussion.

The suspect was last seen wearing a pink shirt.
