Brooklyn man, 58, fatally struck by Mack trash truck blocks from his home

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man was struck and killed by a private sanitation truck just blocks from his Brooklyn home on Thursday night, police said.

Diego Andrade, 58, was hit by the Mack dump truck just before 10 p.m. at East 14th Street and Kings Highway in Homecrest.

Andrade was crossing East 14th Street when the truck driver made a left turn from Kings Highway onto East 14th Street and struck him, police said.

Officers responding to a 911 call found Andrade lying unconscious on the street with trauma to his head and body.

EMS transported him to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Andrade lived less than three blocks away on E. 12th Street, police said.

The truck driver remained at the scene and was not injured.

Police said an investigation into the crash is ongoing.

No arrests have been reported.
