NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Police have arrested a Brooklyn man who was seen on social media video attacking WWE star Seth Rollins during the live broadcast of "Monday Night Raw" at Barclays Center.
Video showed the fan jump a metal barricade before rushing at Rollins and tackling him to the ground, briefly wrapping his legs around the wrestler's head around 9:20 p.m.
Rollins was able to free himself as a referee and security moved in.
The NYPD took the suspect, identified by police as 24-year-old Elisah Spencer, into custody at the scene. He is facing charges of attempted assault and attempted violation of arts and cultural affairs (disrupting live sporting).
Police said Rollins sustained swelling to his lip and refused medical attention.
“WWE takes the safety of its performers very seriously,” WWE said in a statement to the New York Post. “The individual who attacked Seth Rollins has been turned over to the NYPD and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
In 2019, wrestling great Bret “The Hitman” Hart was attacked by an audience member at the Brooklyn arena while giving an acceptance speech during the WWE Hall of Fame show.
