NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A group of bystanders beat a man in the Bronx after he began striking the top of a woman’s car with a metal spatula in an apparent attempt to break into the vehicle, video shows.
The man started hitting the top of a Honda Civic with the spatula and trying to open its driver-side door around 5:45 p.m. on Monday, according to the New York Post, which obtained footage of the incident.
But when the car’s driver started screaming, a group of bystanders ran toward the man and began struggling with him to keep him away from the vehicle, the video shows.
Several bystanders punched and kicked the man as he continued to try to get to the car. The car’s driver told the outlet she didn’t know the man.
“I don’t know him. I was driving and I don’t know him,” she told the outlet. “He was trying to get in.”
Police eventually took the man into custody, and he was taken to a nearby hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, according to the outlet.
