NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- Witnesses reportedly stood by and did nothing as a 68-year-old woman was dragged into a Bronx garage and sexually assaulted by a man just blocks from Fordham University last weekend.

The NYPD released surveillance images Tuesday of the suspect, who allegedly walked up and started choking the woman at East 189th Street and Webster Avenue around 6 a.m. Saturday.

Bystanders looked on as the woman was forced into the garage, law enforcement sources told WNBC on Wednesday.

No one attempted to intervene or even called 911 as the attack unfolded, according to the report.

The area sees high foot traffic and is just a couple blocks from Fordham University and a commercial corridor.

Once inside the garage, the man tried to take off the victim's clothes. When he was unable to, he forced her to perform oral sex on him, police said.

He fled southbound on Third Avenue after the attack. Police were still searching for him Wednesday.

The woman was transported by EMS to an area hospital to be treated.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
