A gray Mitsubishi Montero Sport was traveling westbound in the right lane, when it swerved to avoid hitting a flatbed truck stopped on the right shoulder to assist a disabled tractor trailer around 11:48 p.m.

When it swerved, it crashed into a brown Lincoln MKX. The collision sent it careening back to the right, where it slammed into the flatbed.

The 33-year-old female driver and the 47-year-old male front seat passenger were pronounced dead on the scene. EMS rushed the two rear seat passengers, a 15-year-old girl and a 32-year-old woman, to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi and St. Barnabas Hospital respectively.

The two surviving passengers are in stable condition.

No other parties involved suffered injuries.

Of the two people who died, only the passenger has been identified — Stephen Williams of the Bronx.

The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is looking further into the incident.
