NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Officials are investigating a fatal vehicle accident that happened on Grand Central Parkway early Sunday, authorities said.
At approximately 5:20 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision on the Grand Central Parkway at 111th Street near exit 8 in East Elmhurst, authorities said.
A preliminary investigation determined that 20-year-old Raeven Rishi was driving a 2022 Hyundai SUV eastbound on the Grand Central Parkway in the left lane.
When Rishi veered right to avoid a collision with an uninvolved vehicle, he lost control of his own vehicle crossed all lanes of traffic and struck a tree, police said.
Rishi sustained severe head and body trauma as a result of the collision.
EMS responded and transported him to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
There was a front seat passenger inside of the Hyundai at the time of the collision who was taken by EMS to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad.
