The 55-year-old, Peter Costello, was riding the electric bike at the intersection of 21st Street and 4th Avenue around 1:15 p.m. when he locked up on his brakes, police said.

Costello was ejected from the bike and onto the roadway where he slid underneath a Ford Econoline van making a left turn onto 21st Street, cops said.

Responding officers found Costello lying on the street with head and body trauma where he was unconscious and unresponsive.

Costello was transported to Brooklyn Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The 37-year-old driver of the van remained on the scene. No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.
