NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- FDNY divers were searching for a missing swimmer off Coney Island Beach on Thursday, officials said.

The fire department received a call shortly after 12:30 p.m. about a person in the water at W. 22nd Street and Surf Avenue.

An on-duty lifeguard saw two males drowning in the water, and while one was located conscious, the other was nowhere to be found, police said.

An NYPD Aviation Unit helicopter was flying overhead as crowds of people watched from the beach.

The search comes on the first day of a three-day heat wave in the city, with temperatures in the 90s and RealFeels of more than 100 degrees.
