NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 71-year-old French man visiting New York with his family was brutally attacked by a group of teens in Midtown over the weekend, police said Wednesday.
The NYPD released a photo of one of five teens reportedly involved in Saturday night's unprovoked assault near Carnegie Hall.
The victim and his family had just finished dinner and were heading back to the Moderne hotel when the teens confronted them at W. 55th Street and Broadway, the victim, retired lawyer Giles Viguier, told the Daily News.
"One of the teens pushed me and I turned around to get him to stop and he punched me in the head and I went down," Viguier said through a translator.
The victim's adult daughter tried to intervene and was also slugged, according to the report. She took out her phone and began recording the teens, who fled westbound on W. 55th Street.
The daughter's husband said he was trying to deescalate the situation. "I’ve seen the videos of what can happen in New York. In Paris, I would have taken them," he said.
Viguier was transported to Mount Sinai West for treatment of his injuries.
While Viguier "still loves New York," his wife "doesn't feel safe" in the city anymore.
