Harvey French was taken into custody at his home in the Brownsville Houses and was charged with murder, assault and criminal use of a firearm after James Huff, 56, was fatally shot around 6:30 p.m. on April 18, about a block north on Blake Avenue, according to police.

French, 51, was also charged with drug possession for a large twist of crack found when he was arrested, police told the Daily News.

Investigators were looking into whether drugs were a possible motive because Huff had drugs on him at the time, according to the report.

Huff, also known as Charles Garth, was most recently arrested on drug charges in 2018, records reviewed by the outlet show. He previously served three stints in state prison for drug dealing and firearm possession convictions in the 1990s.

French, who was part of the Brownsville Money gang, also served three terms in state prison: about four years for weapons and robbery convictions, then nine years ending in 2007 for manslaughter.
