NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Bronx woman has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her 7-year-old granddaughter, police said Wednesday.

Maritza Yauger, 65, was arrested on charges of attempted murder, attempted manslaughter, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to police, the child was found with stab wounds on her body inside her grandmother's third-floor apartment on Clinton Avenue near East 169th Street in Morrisania around 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The child was visiting from New Jersey over a school vacation when she was repeatedly stabbed, sources told PIX 11. Yauger's son, the girl's uncle, called 911 after discovering his niece wounded in bed.

The 7-year-old was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in a police cruiser and was initially listed in critical condition, but had stabilized by early Wednesday, according to police.

Yauger was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital for a medical evaluation, where she remained Wednesday morning.

It remains unclear what led to the incident.

An investigation is ongoing.
