NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Democratic New Jersey congressman Josh Gottheimer on Thursday announced on 1010 WINS that he is calling for a congressional hearing into MTA leadership, arguing that mismanagement is responsible for a congestion plan he believes gives Garden State residents a raw deal. Specifically, charging drivers up to $23 to enter Manhattan.

"The MTA is proposing this outrageous plan to enter Manhattan ... it's insane ... and basically New York and the MTA must stop this outrageous cash grab," he told 1010 WINS, ahead of a press conference in Bergen County, where he will make a formal announcement. "All it does is fill the coffers of the MTA which has a budget deficit."

His plan? "I am formally asking to require testimony from ceo and chair of the MTA Janno Lieber and demand under oath where [the previous funding was squandered]."

Gottheimer said of the hearing, "I think it must happen by the end of the year."
