Cops searching for group targeting women in month-long Midtown robbery spree

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are searching for a group of people who have carried out a series of purse snatchings and robberies in Midtown Manhattan over the course of the last month.

In all of the incidents, the robbers have targeted women in Midtown and end with the attackers fleeing into the West 33rd Street PATH station, according to officials.

Police detailed six attacks:

On Feb. 10 around 6:45 p.m., an unidentified suspect grabbed the purse of a 75-year-old woman exiting the Bryant Park restrooms with enough force to knock her to the ground. The victim suffered an injury to her left hand but refused medical attention at the scene.

On Feb. 12 around 6:40 p.m. an individual pushed a 51-year-old woman to the ground on West 25th Street near Eighth Avenue and stole her cellphone and wallet. She suffered a minor head injury but refused medical attention on the scene.

On Feb. 18, two people pushed a 26-year-old woman to the ground and dragged her along Fifth Avenue near East 34th Street around 1:45 a.m. They stole her phone before fleeing onto the PATH station. The victim suffered minor injuries but didn’t require medical attention.

On Feb. 24 around 9:45 p.m., four people approached a 48-year-old woman walking near the intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 36th Street. One asked to borrow her phone and the others pushed her and grabbed at her purse. She was not injured in the attack.

On March 1 around 10:08 p.m., about six people grabbed the purse of a 50-year-old woman on West 42nd Street near Fifth Avenue by Bryant Park. No one was injured in the robbery.

That same day about an hour after the first incident, a group grabbed the purse of an 18-year-old woman on West 25th Street near Sixth Avenue. She wasn’t injured.
